The Sultan Frame option is for the riders that are upgrading from a their current mountain bike to a shiny new Turner mountain bike. We have three options to choose from depending on what you need to get your new Sultan rolling as soon as possible.

Our Upgrade-Kit is the perfect solution for those who want to upgrade to their new Turner Sultan frame from your current mountain bike. This package includes a new Fork and a headset. Yes, that means you get the most important parts at a great price so that you can use any combination of new and old parts to get your new Turner frame rolling. This is where refinement and resourcefulness go hand in hand for a greater purpose. . .

Then we still offer the option to only purchase the frame if you are the type that loves to nitpick over every single component. Some riders will never be happy with any build-kit because building a new ride is a kin to birthing a child. Yeah, we get it, since most of us are the same way.

When ordering a frame kit be sure to check with your local dealer to make sure that all of your existing parts, firstly, are safe to use and, secondly, do not require any special adapters to be used on your new Turner frame. Although in most cases a Turner Upgrade Kit will be a simple build but nothing is guaranteed since we can't account for every component option available.

- Remember the front wheel is a 15qr and the rear wheel is a 142x12 thru-axle.
- The Rear Brakes are postmount which is compatible with most current brake options, but older 'IS' mount brakes will require a special adapter and a larger 180mm rotor.
- The FOX Float CTD Factory with Kashima coating is available as an optional shock choice.
- All Anodized Sultans come with Decals. Once ordered it may take 2-4 weeks to ship.
† Our shocks come custom tuned from Fox Shox for our bikes specifically, which has a very low- compression and low- rebound setting. This is crucial for the dw-link to perform to its fullest which is why we opted to spec our bikes with the FOX Float CTD.

Geometry Key

* Inseam measurements are fine for pant shopping, but have no place in mountain bike shopping. Leg length is what is important as rarely does anyone buy pants that have the same inseam as their actual leg length. Since no one rides barefoot the leg length should be measured with your mountain bike shoes on standing against a wall and with a carpenters square or large sized book firmly raised into the crotch and square to the wall is how to figure leg length.

Turner Bikes measures ‘Standover’ height 6” / 150mm in front of the BB center, that is roughly the MIDDLE of the Top Tube, not at the actual lowest point way back at the junction with the Seat Tube as some companies do. This allows for plenty of standover clearance without the nose of the seat crushing into your spine!



Simultaneously engineered anti-squat and wheel rate curves are the mathematical formulas that make dw-link the world's most efficient and traction-aiding suspension system.

The dw-link is the only design on the market that is able to control unwanted bob and still remain active in more gear combinations than any other design. Dave Weagle has been refining the mathematics of optimum pivot locations of the dw-link on everything from World Cup winning downhill bikes to short travel XC flyers.


journal bearing system

The use of journal bearings, or 'bushings' as some in the bike industry call them, is a perfect solution for the high shock load and abusive limited range of motion that bicycle suspensions put on the pivot system.

Our Journal Bearing system utilizes hard anodized aluminum pivot shafts and Kevlar composite bearings. Since it is not made of steel this system is not capable of rusting and has substantial weight savings over its cartridge style counterparts. Then with the zerk lubrication fittings found at every pivot location, our Journal bearing system has an unrivaled service life, even in the harshest of environments.

The design of our Journal Bearing System is built into the frame to work seamlessly with the suspension. By not using an off-the shelf bearing we are able make use of the entire width of the pivot area. This eliminates any torsional flex in the back end and is why our bikes have legendary handling & stability.


finite element analysis (fea)

A mathematical technique for analyzing stress points, which breaks down a physical structure into substructures called 'finite elements'. These finite elements and their interrelationships are then converted into equation form and solved mathematically.

We use an FEA computer program to aide in the design of every Turner frame. This helps us maximize the strength and minimize the weight to insure a perfect balance is acheived as form follows function is the convention we adhere by.

Due to the tough nature of anodizing and the permanence of lazer etching it fits well with the extremely long life riders get out of their Turner Bikes.


44 headtube

This head tube is perfectly sized to work with a tapered steerer fork and the new 44XX lower head set bearing from Cane Creek. Stiffness gains of up to 20% can be had with a tapered steerer fork. With the upper bearing bore now at 44mm, the rider has the ability to run a ZeroStack headset on top. This setup will lower the hand position up to 10mm for more control on steep climbs and fast descents, where front end traction is enhanced through transferring the riders weight over the handle bar. Our 'just right' head tube design allows for the biggest bearing size on the bottom for a long head set life.


post-mount disc brakes

The biggest reason why Turner Bikes chose to pioneer the use of post-mount rear brake mounting was to eliminate the adapter. All disc brake manufacturers and all new fork designs had already gone to the post-mount calipers due to the ease of set up and the increased rigidity provided. Plus, with the decision to create the post-mount rear dropout we removed two bolts that were doing nothing but adding weight and potential flex. An exceptional design begins with simplicity and commonsense.


threaded zerk grease fittings

Zerks are stainless steel, ultra compact, custom made proprietory fittings to aide in the lubrication and maintenance of all the pivots on a Turner frame. It only makes sense that a machine that is used in the rough and many times sees wet conditions, that it would have a way to push the grit and water out easily and on regular basis. This is one of the key features that makes the ownership of a Turner cost effective over the long haul.


burrito vs. taco

Moving into 2011 we created a custom drawn, differentially dimensioned tube to replace the taco shell style seat tube/ top tube gusset of the past. This design will spread the load across the top tube and seat tube more efficiently with its convex top surface. This is due to the shape and varying wall thickness of the burrito to control how the stress is dispersed through the frame.

In order to make sure that no one had unwanted contact with the bike we created a special machined part to pass the rear derailleur cable directly through the tube on the right side of the rear end.



I would like to thank you for the Turner Sultan design. I am a 43 year old recovering single tracker.

In the late 80s I moved to Crested Butte to ski and fell in love with mountain bikes. In 1992 I purchased a sandvik titanium frame. In 94 I moved to western NC and road consistently till I moved to western PA in 2000. For the next 13 years I would get out a few times a year, but a child, work and road race cars took up much of my time. Upon the recommendation of 2 other turner owners, for Christmas I ordered a Turner Sultan directly from your organization for myself. The order process and the selection of parts your group put together is top quality.

What a change over a 21 year old Ti bike with 2" of front travel. The ride quality of the Sultan is very intuitive and the 5" of travel help my riding, both in confidence and when I do something stupid. I come home after a hour or 2 of single tracking tired but not beat up. That's a big plus. On video you said the Sultan is a woods bike and on the horse trails around my house it does everything I ask it to. I guess what I am trying to say is well done and thank you.

I have been through many bikes and this Sultan is truly the best I have ever had. While in the market for a new bike I test drove almost every fullsuspension 29er there is. The proportions of my bike has the best fit for my 250lb, 6’3” frame which has increased my confidence level in the more technical sections. Nice going to all the guys at Turner for the Sultan.

Just got a Sultan last week. Best bike I have ever ridden! Took my riding to the next level. Rode the Very technical Zen Trail in St. George the second ride and made stuff on the uphill and downhill that I don't think I would have made on another bike. No need for gravity dropper post or sitting back on the seat when dropping in to the knarlys just sit down and go. The awesome Fox 34 fork, slack angles and the big front just works their magic. You think this set up would be adverse for steep techclimbs but the front wheel stays down and the bike just digs in. Love this bike!

I just made the switch from the 2010 Turner Sultan to the 2012 and WOW! In one word, Stiff. The stiffness added by the addition of the through axel in the back and the 44 head tube up front make the ride noticeably more precise and some how smoother than the last incarnation. The other big surprise for me is the chain guide, something I did not think I would even use when I ordered the new bike. It improved my front shifting and makes the bike so quiet that on the down hill all you here is the sound of tires on dirt!

I have had my Turner Sultan now since August 2012. I haved logged many hours of trail rides in all types of weather conditions on Pennsylvania’s root-filled and rocky terrain. This bike does it all.
