Murrieta, Calif. — When Turner Bikes founder Dave Turner committed to being a founding sponsor of the SoCal League he probably didn’t realize the deep involvement he would have in the League. In his first year of involvement Turner Bikes was a sponsor. In his second year of involvement he became a League parent when his son started racing as a freshman with a new club at Murrieta Valley High School. In his third year of involvements he added the title of “coach” to his involvement. According to Dave, “Mountain bike racing is the best way to create a great foundation for one of the few sports that high school athletes can do their whole life.” To say that Dave is “all in” would be an understatement. However, his enthusiasm is not that uncommon. Many people put a toe in the water then realize how special high school mountain biking is.

Now, thanks to Turner Bikes, the SoCal League is looking to raise funds to help spread high school mountain biking across Southern California. The League is holding an eBay auction of a special “SoCal League” spec 2012 Turner 5.Spot. The auction begins June 6 and ends Saturday June 16th. 100% of the proceeds of the auction go to the League.

Outside Magazine recently reviewed a few choice mountain bikes to make a top nine list and the Turner Sultan made the cut. Here is a little snippet of what they had to say:

How’d we pick ‘em? Our primary evaluation process took place over seven days in January on the trails and back roads outside Tucson, Arizona. We spent three days on mountain bikes on the rugged and rocky singletrack at Starr Pass and a final mountain day on the fast and furious desert trails at Fantasy Island. He has this review coined as a ‘Long Termer’ so expect there to be a few follow-ups as Jamie has a chance to ride and get a solid feel for his 5.Spot. He is just now getting settled into his ideal build options, so we are very excited to see how his component choices fare on the 5.Spot in UK riding conditions.

The arrival of my Turner 5-Spot frame for long-term test certainly caused a stir when it arrived in the lead up to to Christmas. . . The Sultan Turner Bikes donated to the Crankbrothers Dreambikes program was auctioned off on February 19th. Thus far the Sultan is the highest auction winner bringing in $4,025 towards Wheels4Life charity. This is all thanks to a French man named Christian, enjoy the bike sir, you have definitely earned it!

Imagine the impact that 363 bikes can have on communities that have no access to transportation… Doctors can visit patients, students can go to school, and adults can earn more money transporting their wares to markets. By raising $36,380 for Wheels 4 Life, that is exactly what the crankbrothers dreambike program has accomplished so far, and we still have four dreambikes to go. We are proud of the success this program has had, and we are humbled by the incredible impact the dreambikes are having on people who are truly in need.

auction results for turner sultan 29er / Last week we auctioned a Turner Sultan 29er dreambike, and this red beauty brought in an impressive $4,025. The winner of the Turner dreambike is a French man who now calls himself Pasta Boy, and I think he explains it best:

” I am the (very, very) happy winner of the Turner sultan. :)

I was not planning to buy a dream bike like that, but I was so touched by the project that I decided to destroy my little piggybank–and now plan on eating pasta the rest of the year.
