This is one we have been rolling around here for a while, since a few weeks back when the nice guys over at Velosurance sent us some information on their new bicycle hinged insurance company. And while, admittedly, we scuffed at the idea on first glance we then realized how this type of service made sense. Mountain bikes cost a good share of your hard earned funds and we all know what it feels liked when you taco a wheel or regrettably drive your ride into the roof of your garage. Thus the point being is the unexpected happens everyday to some poor soul and when it is your ticket being called wouldn’t it be nice to know that someone has your back?

Enter Velosurance. . . for as little as one hundred dollars a year, that’s .27 cents a day, you can have the same piece of mind that millions of people already pay to protect that little brick of technology which is rarely used as an actual phone. And obviously this wouldn’t be for everyone but I know there are a few of us out there that not only revolve our lives around our mountain biking needs and also have a considerable amount of capital invested in such rides. Velosurance is a national insurance agency founded by two cyclists in response to the insurance needs of bicycle riders nationwide. After more than 3 years of development they have partnered with an A rated, US insurance company to introduce a multi risk policy offering protection to all types of cyclists.

Check them out, worst case it’s simply not for you. http://velosurance.com

Turner Burner Mountain Bike

Mountain Bike Mag Chooses The Turner Burner as one of their 13 favorite rides for 2013.

Turner Burner 27.5

Why It’s Cool: One of the best 27.5 bikes we’ve ridden

The Burner 27.5 uses the proven DW-Link suspension system to deliver 140mm of bump-absorbing travel. It pedals crisply, yet remains smooth and supple over rough terrain. While company founder David Turner was initially resistant to 29-inch wheels, he has embraced the 27.5 standard, and the Burner is one of the best bikes of the breed. With a 67-degree head angle, the bike is relatively maneuverable, but steady on steep descents. The revamped Burner comes with 142x12mm rear thru-axle, ISCG 05 tabs and a 44mm headtube that is compatible with tapered steerers. The new model will be available in December and sold as a frame only ($2,300) or as a complete bike (prices range from $5,580 to $8,000 with Enve carbon wheels).

Lj’s Murdered Burner. . . Our Turner Bikes sales manager, Lj, wanted to show off his new blacked out ride. So you won’t catch him rolling on his new 275′s, stealth is the only speed this Turner Burner drives. . .

BikeRadar recently got their hands on an anodized blue Turner Sultan and wrote this positively tidy review for it. Below is a short selection of their assessment of our beloved 29er to get your jowls watering.

Dave Turner’s Sultan was one of the first full suspension 29ers. This updated version is a beautifully made and immaculately conceived frameset that harks back to old glories but is still a confidence-boosting, technical trail cruiser if you prefer handbuilt alloy art over carbon. . .

When we were totally blinded by dust but still tipping into the backlit turn smoothly, the Sultan soothed what should be screaming nerves. While the big wheels dampen the sense of speed, there’s no denying the fact that the brakes need to be dabbed to stop the Sultan rear-ending whoever is dropping down in front. . . [..read more..]

MBA Mag Turner 5.Spot Review

The Evolutionary Class Champ. Mountain Bike Action Mag just recently put out a phenomenal review of our current Turner 5.Spot, version 4.2, and calling it the “Swiss army knife of mountain bikes”.

Over the years, MBA has seen more of our bikes cross through their test labs than any other magazine. So much to the fact, as rumor has it, they dubbed the original Turner as the ‘Turner Burner’ in their review of the first self-named Turner model. Which, as many of you know, is a name we now hold dearly in our hearts. MBA is a magazine that can truly review a Turner as they know where we have been and how much we have grown, for better or worse. . .

Here is a snippet from the review:

The Turner 5.Spot proves that both 26-inch wheels and aluminum frames can be as cutting edge as 29ers, 27.5ers and carbon fiber. There are so many bikes that do a few things really well but always leave gaps. The 5.Spot is the kind of bike that will never have you wishing for anything during a ride because it covers all the bases equally well. When you look up the definition of a mountain bike in the dictionary, this is the bike that should be pictured. [..read more..]

Phil's Power PancakePhil's Power Pancakes

Phil Perota, father of the Power Pancake, stopped by Turner Bikes today to whip up a very tasty and holistic lunch for all of us here!

We’ve gotta hand it to Phil, when it comes to being healthy he is the undisputed picture of ‘Vigor’. In fact, I am almost positive Webster has his image next to the definition of the word to emphasize its meaning. And for anyone who has had the chance to meet this man in person, this truth is evident in the most conspicuous way. For Phil healthy living is not just a passing phrase but a way of life.

Phil has set aside most accepted worldly conventions to walk his own path of  ‘healthy living’. . . looking past all the marketing and advertising campaigns what we are all accosted with on a daily basis he has broken down healthy consumption into its most basic elements, the ingredients. So simplistic and honest that you can taste the life giving energy with every delicious bite like you just read the ingredients with your taste buds. Unlike normal mass produced energy bars that are composed of dehydrated baby food and other unknown additives with a texture that can only be described as being a few notches above plastic, the Power Pancake is genuine food and real energy!

Phil, thank you for the excellent lunch! Turner Bikes will be looking forward to your next visit.

Yes you heard right! Aaron Dunford of Fusion Peak Professional Cycle Fitting designed and built a custom prosthesis that is ergonomic and individually tailored to allow competitive cyclist Gerard Cushan to ride more naturally improving his comfort and performance. And a Turner Flux mountain bike frame was used to provide for the components of this new prosthesis.

Gerard’s right leg was amputated just below the knee as a child. Aaron’s skills,
including a strong understanding of biomechanics and cycling position and the
ability to develop and build a working prototype would soon lead to a completely
new and totally custom prosthesis for Gerard. [..Read More..]

Thanks to Aarons hard work and a medley of Turner Flux components, Gerard is on his way to a better and more competitive cycling future. Although Turner Bikes really had no part to play in this story, we are very happy to see one of our frames being recycled for such an amazing project.
