The Prototype 650b Turner Burner

Rumors Running Rampant: The Turner Burner Returns?

Before we say another single word, lets make this as clear as possible. This bike is a ‘Prototype’, which means it is not in production yet and the final form of this model may still change considerably before it becomes a production model. It is its own unique model, so the answer is ‘No’ to all of those out there who wish to simply swap out rear triangles to upgrade their current model. Even though this may be physically possible, the ride of the bike and the performance of the dw-link would suffer substantially. And finally, we are planning to release the Turner Burner late this fall/winter, but we are not making any promises at this point so don’t hold your breath because you will most likely pass out from oxygen deprivation!

Okay, now with that out of the way. . .  Yes, this is the prelude to the return to the infamous Turner Burner, with 140mm of travel and 650b/27.5″ wheels its potential to slay any range of trails and the competition is massive. Want to know more, see more, and drool more? below are a few links to the rumors spreading about:

Be the high bidder on this custom spec Turner.5 Spot

Be the high bidder on this custom spec Turner.5 Spot and support high school mountain biking in SoCal!

Murrieta, Calif. — When Turner Bikes founder Dave Turner committed to being a founding sponsor of the SoCal League he probably didn’t realize the deep involvement he would have in the League. In his first year of involvement Turner Bikes was a sponsor. In his second year of involvement he became a League parent when his son started racing as a freshman with a new club at Murrieta Valley High School. In his third year of involvements he added the title of “coach” to his involvement. According to Dave, “Mountain bike racing is the best way to create a great foundation for one of the few sports that high school athletes can do their whole life.” To say that Dave is “all in” would be an understatement. However, his enthusiasm is not that uncommon. Many people put a toe in the water then realize how special high school mountain biking is.

Now, thanks to Turner Bikes, the SoCal League is looking to raise funds to help spread high school mountain biking across Southern California. The League is holding an eBay auction of a special “SoCal League” spec 2012 Turner 5.Spot. The auction begins June 6 and ends Saturday June 16th. 100% of the proceeds of the auction go to the League.

Dave Turner receives a 2012 jersey autographed by SoCal League student-athletes in recognition of his support.

New 5.Spot Review: In Shred UK Mag

. . . [T]his is a trail bike that climbs and rides lighter than expected. . . Normally this would lead to some kind of compromise when pointing it downwards, but smashing it through rough rocky tracks whilst pedaling at absolutely full tilt, it remained unflaggingly composed. . .

UK based magazine Shred recently reviewed the newest rendition of our Turner 5.Spot with ‘Smashing’ results. Use the link below to download the pdf version of the review to have a read for yourself.

Axle Included! A 142×12 DT-Swiss Aluminum RWS to be specific.

The Turner Flux, 5.Spot, and Sultan all come with the 142×12 DT Swiss Aluminum RWS thru axle. Instead of a regular 5 mm quick release axle, the 12 mm thru bolt offers an ironclad connection to the frame which only adds to the already infamous lateral rigidity of Turner frames. Never will that wayward root or rut threaten to alter your path so easily again! The RWS thru bolt system combines the advantages of a fixed thru axle with the ease of use of a standard quick release.

MBA Test: The Turner DHR, Low-And-Slack Aluminum Rocket Ship

MBA Test: The Turner DHR, Low-And-Slack Aluminum Rocket Ship

Mountain Bike Action Mag just did a Bike Review on the Turner DHR in their June 2012 issue. The MBA crew piloted the DHR, probed and studied the intrinsic details, compiled their data and opinions, and came to their incisive judgement with clear resolve. . .

Want to go fast? simply put, the DHR is purpose built for one simple reason. Their answer  -  ”I wanna go fast”

Below is an excerpt from the article, enjoy.

Turner has been making the DHR since 2000, and since its inception, it has been a privateer racer’s dream bike. It has been through four iterations, and many of the previous generations can still be seen in the lift lines at bike parks worldwide. This is not a disposable bike; it’s an investment that will serve the fast downhill rider for years to come. While the first generations are still favorites of downhill racers around the world, this DHR is designed to smash the previous ones and live on the cutting edge of performance. . . The DHR is a downhill race bike that’s clearly designed to level the ground and lay waste to rocks, roots and chutes. The DHR likes to descend at Mach 5 with the rider’s hair on fire. . . [..ReadMore..]

Dirtragmag.com Turner DHR review

Dirtragmag.com : Turner DHR Review

Turner Bicycles lays claim to offering the world’s first production downhill bike, so it’s no surprise David Turner continues to push the limits of production race bikes. After all, the downhill market has evolved substantially since 1996 when Turner’s Afterburner delivered a whopping 3.6” of rear wheel travel. . . [..read more..]

Dirt Rag mag just delivered a stunning Turner DHR review and, if you haven’t yet, this one should be on your must read list. There is nothing less skeptical or more breathtaking than throwing a leg over a Turner DHR and seeing for yourself why it is the privateer’s champion of choice. But in the meantime, this detailed review will have to suffice. . .

BikeRadar.com Review: The New Turner 5.Spot

BikeRadar.com Review: The New Turner 5.Spot

BikeRadar.com just released a new review on the current Turner 5.Spot. Read it and you be the judge, but the people are talking and it sounds like the 5.Spot is still defining and redefining what an All-Mountain Bike should be. Below is a snippet from the review just to give you a taste:

There are three questions you should ask yourself before making your mind up about the 5.Spot. What’s more important – the weight a bike posts on the scale or how light it feels when riding? How well it pedals in the parking lot or how well it works on the trail? The type of material it’s molded from or how that material is made to ride? If you picked the latter answers, read on… [..read more..]

The 9 Best Mountain Bikes of Spring 2012

Outside Magazine recently reviewed a few choice mountain bikes to make a top nine list and the Turner Sultan made the cut. Here is a little snippet of what they had to say:

How’d we pick ‘em? Our primary evaluation process took place over seven days in January on the trails and back roads outside Tucson, Arizona. We spent three days on mountain bikes on the rugged and rocky singletrack at Starr Pass and a final mountain day on the fast and furious desert trails at Fantasy Island. Perhaps the most impressive stat? Twenty-seven flat mountain-bike tires in four days of riding in Tucson. Lesson learned—next year we’re going tubeless. [..read more..]

Bearings from the future? An insightful article on BikeRadar.com

Read this article from the guys at BikeRadar.com. We feel it speaks volumes about the misconceptions of full suspension frame bearings and why what is ‘the standard’ may not be the best option available.

And we would surely jump on this bandwagon right away, except for the fact that it seems we have already been playing in this corner of the sandbox for over 18 years now. In fact we could easily be deemed leaders in this ‘future bearing’ movement seeing as how we have chosen to not only stand by the potential of journal bearings but spend countless hours of R&D refining their application in a real world environment.

Here is a short bit from the article:

So whilst composites have changed the way frames evolve, space age materials have also changed the bearings we use today. . .

But do materials really matter? They do if you don’t want to think about it, say these bearing experts.

David Turner of Turner Bikes said his company uses IGUS journal bearings, which are made of solid composites. “I have always used IGUS and have great life span with them so I find it hard to switch,” said Turner. “Riders in the UK are known to say, ‘when Turner Bike pivots are worn in, others are worn out.’ It is hard to switch with results like that.” . . . Singletrack Mag Review: Jamie's Turner 5.Spot

Singletrack Mag Review: Jamie’s Turner 5-Spot

Singletrack’s Jamie just received a 2012 Turner 5.Spot from our UK distributor Silverfish. He has this review coined as a ‘Long Termer’ so expect there to be a few follow-ups as Jamie has a chance to ride and get a solid feel for his 5.Spot. He is just now getting settled into his ideal build options, so we are very excited to see how his component choices fare on the 5.Spot in UK riding conditions.

The arrival of my Turner 5-Spot frame for long-term test certainly caused a stir when it arrived in the lead up to to Christmas. . . I was particularly drawn to the 5-Spot after spending four years on the carbon fibre but similarly DW-linked Ibis Mojo. I think it’s going to be interesting to see the shared characteristics and nuances between these two interpretations of the DW suspension platform. . . [..Read More..]
